A sequel to a 24 year old film! I'm not talking a film like 'Blade Runner'. It was considered a flop, but the concept looked good, particularly for a children's film. This is not a follow up story. Entirely a new cast and a new situation. The story of a young girl Karina, influenced by her late cop father, she's interested in fighting, solving crimes. So she frequently ends up in the principal office in her school. On one day, she comes across a cop who is trying to follow a lead to a man responsible for a series of vandals around the city. This unusual team-up, sees an unexpected success, how it all happens that you should watch it to know.<br/><br/>The casting was decent, but the lead two guys were good. Particularly Lulu. Seems one of the future big star on making. The story, it's okayish. Predictable, but also enjoyable. Acceptable graphics, better one for television quality. There were lots of silly scenes, but overall a much entertaining film. Just a cinematic story, it does not make sense in the real world. A film that brings together kids and adults, a pure family film and a perfect weekend film. Such films do not make any harm, only you have to put aside a while your rational mind to have a good time.<br/><br/>6.5/10
In the bonus track of the DVD for "Cop and a Half: New Recruit," the filmmakers described the projecta throwback to the 1980s "buddy cop" films now updated and revised with the latest technology for family entertainment. The energetic cast, including Wallace Shawnthe stodgy Principal Miller, helps to maintain the fast-moving pace of this light-hearted piece of fluff.<br/><br/>The film was successful in creating the team of a beleaguered, "scruffy" detective (Lou Diamond Phillips) and a kid from the local Darville Middle School, who is an aspiring undercover cop. The little kid playing the role is great, and Phillips is perfectthe jaded detective in need of the kid's wherewithal and expertise in the new technology.<br/><br/>There is an inventive theme to the kid's approach to detective work: "Don't panic. Just work the problem." The Americana that is depicted in the film is that of a Normal Rockwell painting. Except, in this case, there is a disgruntled law enforcement official calling himself the Badge Bandit, who beleaguers the town with pranks unleashed through drones to culminate with an embarrassing display set to occur during the Harvest Valley Festival.<br/><br/>There is never any true danger, and there is great fun throughout the adventure. The one-liners and the gags are good. The kid knows all the cop lingo ("perp," "copy that," and "10-4, Cap"), and she also coins the word "ridonkulous" that seems like a perfect description of this inconsequential film experiencea whole.
